Maintenance & Displays Team

There are always jobs to be done to care for the Museum – replacing light-bulbs, deep cleaning, oiling locks, and painting. Much of these help improve the visitor’s experience and protect the artefacts. We rely on our maintenance team to build and create displays, and to maintain, restore and repair our collection. Whether you are a skilled craftsperson, or good at DIY, we have a project for you to help.  

 

Key elements of the role

  • General DIY skills
  • General maintenance
  • Restore, repair and maintain historical machines on site
  • Create displays in the museum
  • Emergency repairs on all aspects of the museum
  • Repair and maintain buildings on site
  • Paint and decorate
  • Move the collection
  • Liaise with service providers such as alarm, heating, and fire

 

Commitment

At the Milton Keynes Museum we understand that people only have a limited amount of free time. Therefore any commitment, you can make will be gratefully received. The maintenance team work all year round usually Monday to Friday.

 What we are looking for:

  • Common sense
  • Attention to detail
  • An interest in the museum and its ongoing story
  • Works well under pressure
  • Team worker
  • Skilled craftsman (electricians, plumbers, builders, carpenters etc)
  • DIY enthusiast

Training and induction

  • Full induction to the site and history
  • Shadowing other volunteers
  • Ongoing training will be provided as and when necessary
