Surbhi and Camille

The Museum’s first ever part-time education officers have been appointed to lead a scaling up of services to schools, community groups and the public.

Camille Poole and Surbhi Bhambri are sharing the role of Education Officer, leading the Museum’s existing team of dedicated and experienced volunteers.

Their appointment has been planned since plans to expand the whole site with two new galleries were first drawn up. The Museum’s ambition is to¬†increase student visits from 3,400 in 2017/18 to 9,000 in 2021/22, and informal learning and outreach to increase from 3,300 in 17/18 to 9,000 in 21/22. By 2028/29 we want 25,000 young people and adults involved in our formal and informal learning programmes.

The duo bring a wide range of experience to their role. Camille’s museums’ career began at Clitheroe Castle Museum in Lancashire, involved a traineeship with the Learning department at the Horniman Museum in London, followed by an outdoor learning role at Hall Place in Kent. She then worked on the family programme in Kew Gardens, followed by a spell at Keats House Museum, a small venue in Hampstead.

She said: “I’m delighted to become a part of the Milton Keynes Museum, having loved coming as a visitor with my family when we moved to Wolverton in 2017.¬†There’s so much wonderful hands-on learning here, I’m excited to be part of developing this and to have the opportunity to bring new ideas to our programme.”

Planning learning programmes with the education volunteer team

Surbhi’s background is in archaeology as well as museums. She did an MA in Museums and Artefact Studies at Durham University, went on to work as an Education Officer in the United Arab Emirates, and is now doing an MA in Museums and Education at UCL alongside her role with us.

Said Surbhi: “I am very excited to be able to work here at MK Museum and create some new and fun learning programmes with Camille.”
